Carolyn "Tippi" Cain Burch
Tippi Burch is the founder of The Burch Firm, LLC. Ms. Burch has over twenty years of experience handling appellate litigation and complex trial litigation matters and business disputes in state and federal courts around the country. Ms. Burch, a native of Columbus, Georgia, founded The Burch Firm to concentrate her practice on appellate litigation in Georgia. She is admitted to practice in the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals, the Supreme Court of Georgia, the Georgia Court of Appeals, the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, the United States District Court for the Middle District of Georgia and all state trial courts in Georgia.
Ms. Burch previously served as an Assistant United States Attorney in Appellate Division of the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Georgia where she represented the United States in the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals and advised the office on appellate and complex legal matters. Ms. Burch also previously practiced at Chalmers Pak Burch & Adams where she specialized in appellate and trial litigation in Georgia and at King & Spalding LLP where she represented clients in state and federal courts across the country in complex trial and appellate litigation, including whistleblower claims under the False Claims Act, Sarbanes-Oxley, and other whistleblower statutes, business torts, employment litigation, securities litigation, fraud and RICO claims, and breach of contract claims. Prior to practicing at King & Spalding, Ms. Burch practiced at Swift, Currie, McGhee & Hiers, where she represented clients in appellate litigation, product liability actions, legal malpractice litigation, and contract disputes. The clients she has represented include a global soft drink manufacturer, global automotive manufacturers, healthcare providers, global pharmaceutical and biologics manufacturers, a long term care pharmacy, local government entities, small and private businesses, family owned businesses, candidates for office, and political committees.
Ms. Burch graduated cum laude from the University of Georgia School of Law where she was on the Intrastate Moot Court Team and Vice Chair of the Moot Court Board. After law school, Ms. Burch clerked in the Superior Court for the Macon Judicial Circuit and for the Honorable C. Ashley Royal in the United States District Court for the Middle District of Georgia.
Ms. Burch is recognized leader in the community and among her legal peers. She is a Master in the Joseph Henry Lumpkin American Inn of Court, has an AV Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbel, and is member of the Leadership Georgia Class of 2014. She was named one of Georgia’s “Rising Stars” in Business Litigation by Super Lawyers magazine. She serves on the Board of Trustees for the Georgia Legal History Foundation. She has also been named to the Order of Barristers (for outstanding oral advocacy).
Ms. Burch is on the Executive Board of the Atlanta Lawyers Chapter of the Federalist Society. She served as the Treasurer of Georgia Supreme Court Justice Keith Blackwell’s election campaign and served on the Board of Directors of Georgia Court of Appeals Judge Stephen Dillard’s re-election campaign. She is active in the State Bar of Georgia, serves as co-chair of the Georgia Appellate Practice Seminar, and serves as the vice chair of the Business Court special committee. She is also a member of the Columbus Bar Association.
Ms. Burch also enjoys volunteering in the community. She was appointed by Governor Nathan Deal to a five year term on the Board of the Georgia Department of Community Affairs, and was elected by her fellow board members to serve as Secretary, Vice Chair, and Chair of the Board during her term of service. She has previously served as Chair of the State Public Affairs Committee for the Junior Leagues of Georgia, on the Board of Directors for the Junior League of Atlanta, as Vice President of Community Outreach for the Junior League of Atlanta, and as Chair of the Political Affairs Committee for the Junior League of Atlanta.
Ms. Burch and her family are active members of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Columbus, Georgia.
